The Real Cost

The permit bottleneck is bleeding your margin

Every week your crew sits idle waiting for permit approval is a week of payroll spent earning nothing. Most rejections are fixable paperwork errors, not real compliance failures.

!

Wrong forms for the wrong jurisdiction

Each county, city, and township runs its own portal with its own form versions and local amendments. Getting it wrong on first submission adds two to four weeks per resubmission cycle, often more in high-demand municipalities.

#

Missing documentation halts everything

A single absent site plan addendum or an incorrect setback calculation can pause a $400,000 project. The permit office typically will not tell you exactly what is missing until after they have already denied and you have restarted the review queue.

~

Your schedule depends on someone else's inbox

Most municipalities run permit reviews on a 10 to 30 day queue. A correction cycle restarts that clock entirely. One avoidable resubmission can push a project finish date by a full month, damaging your client relationship and your next job's start date.

x

It compounds across your portfolio

A GC running four concurrent projects can accumulate 60 or more days of idle crew time per year attributed purely to permit delays. That is real margin sitting uncaptured while faster competitors move on.

Process

From project scope to permit-ready package in under an hour

Permit AI handles the research, the form filling, and the documentation checklist so your project manager does not have to become a permitting expert for every new jurisdiction you enter.

01
Upload

Drop in your project details and site address

Enter your scope of work, project address, and any existing drawings. Permit AI identifies the controlling jurisdiction, the permit categories required, and all applicable building codes from a live database covering every state. Multi-jurisdictional projects are flagged automatically when an address crosses county lines.

02
Generate

AI drafts your complete application package

The system populates jurisdiction-specific forms with your project data, calculates setbacks and lot coverage, writes the project description in the language permit reviewers expect, and assembles every required attachment. Local code amendments are applied automatically based on your site address.

03
Submit

Review your compliance score and submit with confidence

Your permit package arrives as a ready-to-submit PDF bundle. A completeness score grades it against the jurisdiction's current checklist before you hand anything over. Every item the reviewer will check is accounted for. Where jurisdictions accept electronic filing, Permit AI supports direct portal submission.

Features

Built for how contractors actually work

Not a generic document tool grafted onto a government database. Every feature was designed around the construction workflow and the real failure modes that cause permit rejections.

Live jurisdiction database with weekly updates

Coverage across all 50 states updated regularly to reflect fee schedule changes, new online portals, and revised form versions. Your application always uses the current requirements for that specific municipality, not a six-month-old cached version.

Scope-to-code mapping in plain language

Describe the work plainly and Permit AI maps it to the correct permit type, the applicable sections of the International Building Code, and any local amendments. No code lookups, no guesswork about which chapter governs your specific scope.

Completeness scoring before you submit

A scored checklist grades your package against what the jurisdiction's reviewer will check. Missing items are flagged with specific resolution instructions, not vague warnings. Fix the gaps before they become a denial and a 30-day restart.

Contractor profile and data reuse

License numbers, insurance certificates, and standard contractor data are saved once and prefill automatically on every future package. Repeat jobs in the same jurisdiction cut preparation time from 45 minutes to under 10.

RFI correction-response drafting

When a Request for Information comes back from the inspector, paste it in and Permit AI drafts the correction response with the exact documentation additions or clarifications the reviewer needs. No more guessing.

Early Users

From frustrated to first-submission

"I used to budget three weeks just for permits on any job over $50k. Last quarter we averaged nine days from submission to approval across six projects. That difference pays for this software many times over."

"We do heavy volume across county lines in Northern California. Every county wants something slightly different and form versions change without announcement. Permit AI just knows. I stopped worrying about which version Sonoma County is on this month."

"My permit coordinator quit last spring and I dreaded learning the process myself. Permit AI stepped in and honestly I do not think I need to rehire that role. The tool handles exactly what she was handling, faster and without the overhead."

FAQ

Questions contractors ask before signing up

Does Permit AI submit the permit for me?

Permit AI prepares the complete application package. Direct submission is available for jurisdictions that accept electronic filing through a third-party connector. For most jurisdictions you download the package and submit through the local portal or in person. We are expanding direct-submission coverage through 2025.

How current is the jurisdiction database?

We update the database weekly using official municipal feeds combined with our own verification team. Every jurisdiction page shows a last-verified date. If you flag an error we investigate and correct within 72 hours, and we credit your account for the inconvenience.

What types of permits does it cover?

Residential and light commercial building permits, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, demolition, and solar installation permits. Specialty categories including fire suppression and elevators are in development with expected release in Q3 2025.

What if the permit gets rejected anyway?

If your first submission is rejected for any reason covered by our completeness check, we refund the package cost or regenerate it at no charge. Our 94% first-submission rate means this is rare, but we stand behind the output completely.

Can my project manager or coordinator use it?

Yes. The Pro plan includes three team seats. Add team members by email and each person gets their own login. You can set a default contractor profile so team members always submit under the correct license and insurance credentials.

Is my project data kept private?

Project data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We do not sell or share project data with any third party. Enterprise plans can request data residency options and custom retention policies. Your job information is yours.
