# Marcus Tillman, Director of Carrier Relations at Summit Freight Group (3PL, ~85 employees, Denver) — read of CarrierCard, May 12 2026

> 14 years moving freight, last 6 in carrier management. I manage relationships with about 220 active carriers. I coach U10 soccer Saturday mornings and spend my Tuesday commute catching up on FreightWaves.

## How I got here

Someone in our company Slack dropped a link with no context, just "thoughts?" I ignored it for two days. Eventually clicked it while waiting for my McLeod instance to load, which takes forever after the last update.

## What I clicked first

The lede pulled me in: "Every Monday morning, your carriers wake up to a personalized video showing their on-time delivery rate, load volume, damage claims, and lane reliability score."

That's a real sentence. It describes a real thing. It does not say "unlock synergistic carrier visibility" or "leverage AI-driven performance ecosystems." I kept reading.

## Where I paused

The honest disclosure section stopped me cold: "we don't have live customers on this idea yet. We shipped the strategy package; you ship the customer conversations."

I had to read that twice. The whole page is selling something that doesn't exist yet as a live product. The page is essentially a business plan wrapped in product language. The "$-12,600 Year-1 take-home" buried in the Fermi estimates, the "1 in 7" odds of meaningful success, the "investment to production around $28K" -- this is someone selling you the map and asking you to build the road.

That's not automatically bad. But I needed a minute to recalibrate what I was actually reading.

## What I distrusted

Three things:

First, "Pull data directly from your TMS." Which TMS? McLeod? MercuryGate? Turvo? This is the number-one question any freight operator asks before any integration claim. The fact that it's not answered anywhere on the page tells me the answer is probably "it depends" or "we'll figure it out."

Second, the video format itself. I have 220 carriers. Maybe 30 of them open my emails consistently. The assumption that a carrier's dispatcher or owner-op is going to sit and watch a weekly scorecard video -- I don't know if that's been tested or if it just sounds good. It sounds good. I'm not sure it's true.

Third, "$299/month. Scales from 5 carriers to 500+." That pricing structure tells me almost nothing. Is it $299 for 5 carriers and $29,900 for 500? Or is it a flat $299? The vagueness is either a placeholder or a decision they haven't made yet.

## What would convince me

One real carrier who watched one of these videos and did something different the following week because of it. Not a case study written in "founder voice." A text screenshot from a dispatch manager saying "hey we saw the claims number last Monday and pulled back on that lane." Something gross and real.

Also: a list of TMS integrations that actually exist, not "or upload a simple CSV." CSV-first means the manual work lands on me, and I've been promised CSV uploads are temporary for 14 years.

## What I'd ask in an email reply

1. Can I see an actual example video, with fake carrier data? Not a walkthrough. The video itself, how it looks, how long it is, what it says.

2. Which TMS platforms have you actually pulled data from in a prototype or demo, even once?

3. When you say "carrier sees their metrics" -- how does the carrier access this? Do they get a video file? A link? Do they need a login? What happens if the carrier ignores it for 3 weeks?

## Verdict: on-the-fence

The idea itself is specific enough that I haven't dismissed it, and the honest disclosure is genuinely unusual in a good way. But I'm being asked to pay $99 for a dossier about a product that doesn't exist yet, built on TMS integrations that aren't listed, for a video format no carrier has confirmed they want. That gap between "here's a sharp concept" and "here's proof the concept translates to driver behavior change" is the whole ballgame in freight.
