# Sandra Kowalczyk, Owner at Kowalczyk's Pierogi House — read of Restaurant AI, May 13 2026

> 11 years in restaurants, 4 as owner of a 14-seat Polish comfort food spot in Naperville IL. My POS is Square, my "CRM" is a spreadsheet I open maybe twice a month, and my scheduling is a Google Sheet I text a photo of to the staff.

## How I got here

Googled "how to get more Google reviews restaurant" at 11:18pm after closing. I had 47 unanswered reviews going back to January and my cousin texted me that we dropped to 4.2 stars. One of the results was an article about restaurant tech and this product was mentioned in a list. Clicked through. I was already annoyed so my tolerance for marketing speak was extremely low.

## What I clicked first

The headline pulled me in: "Restaurant owners stop bleeding money on no-show tables." Okay, you have my attention. No-shows are real. But then the subhead says "reservation optimization, shift coverage, and real-time pricing" and I thought, that is a yield management tool. Interesting.

Then I scrolled and suddenly it is a different product entirely. Now it is "Restaurant AI writes your review responses, sends slow-night promos, and keeps your regulars coming back." Fine, also useful. But that is not the same product I thought I was reading about. The first hero and the second hero are describing two different things and nobody addressed that. I genuinely did not know which one was the real pitch for a few minutes.

## Where I paused

The testimonial from Denise Okafor: "First slow-night SMS campaign filled 14 tables. It messaged guests who had not been in for six weeks with a new pasta special. Felt personal. Half of them rebooked on the spot."

I stopped here because that is actually specific. 14 tables, six weeks, pasta special. That reads like something a real person said. The other two testimonials are fine but generic. This one I almost believed. What I wanted to know right after reading it was: what POS was she on, and what was her list size? Because if she had 400 contacts built up over 3 years and I have 80, that math looks very different for me.

## What I distrusted

The stats in the hero. "4.8x More reviews answered." More than what baseline? My baseline is zero -- does that mean I will answer 4.8x more of zero? That is not a number, that is a formatting choice. "23% Lift on slow nights." Lift in what? Revenue? Covers? Orders? I do not know if that number comes from a real cohort study or from Denise's one good Tuesday.

Also: the page starts with "Unlock the dossier $5" which I clicked and it took me... somewhere. That whole opener section with "A polished restatement of the offer" and "See the build below" reads like the page is talking to itself, or like I accidentally walked into a design review meeting. That is confusing on a product page meant for someone like me. I almost closed the tab there.

And the setup section says "Tell us your voice / Answer 8 short questions... Paste in two or three past reviews you have written yourself." I have written maybe 9 total review responses in four years. What if I paste in my three best ones and they are mediocre? Will the AI output mediocre responses and I will not know the difference?

## What would convince me

Show me one real restaurant, named, with a before/after on their Google review response rate over 90 days. Not a quote. A screenshot of their Google dashboard. Review count in January, review count in April, average response time before and after. I do not need a case study PDF. A screenshot in the testimonial section would do it.

Also: show me a sample review response. Literally paste in a 3-star review someone got and show me what the AI wrote back. One example. That is the product. Let me judge it myself.

On pricing, I want to know what counts as a "review response." If I get 60 reviews in a month and I am on Starter, does it just... stop? Do I get notified? Does it queue them? That is a real concern for any busy weekend in summer.

## What I'd ask in an email reply

1. If I connect my Square account and I only have 80 guest emails in my list, is this even worth it? Is there a minimum list size where the SMS campaigns start to make a financial difference?

2. The setup says 20 minutes, no IT needed. My Google Business profile is technically owned by my brother-in-law who set it up in 2018 and I do not have the login. How many people hit that wall and what happens next?

3. What does the review response actually look like for a 2-star review from someone who had a bad experience and wants a refund? Because that is the one I am scared to automate.

## Verdict: on-the-fence

The product addresses real pain, the pricing is honest, and Denise's testimonial gave me a flicker of actual belief. But the two-hero confusion at the top and the stat soup with no methodology makes me feel like I am reading something that was written to sound convincing rather than to actually inform me. I would not delete the tab. I would not reply today. I would come back Thursday if I remembered.
