# Marcus Delgado, Owner / Creative Director at Saltline Studio — read of Collect AI, May 10 2026

> 9 years running a 6-person brand and content agency in Denver. I bill roughly 40 clients a year, two of them consistently late. My bookkeeper is me, every Sunday night.

## How I got here

Someone dropped a link in the Freelancers Union Slack under a thread that started "what are you all using for AR follow-up besides awkward texts." I clicked it on my lunch break. I was looking for something that plugs into FreshBooks and sends nudges so I don't have to. That was my search intent. That is the only reason I stayed more than 10 seconds.

## What I clicked first

"Freelancers, stop chasing receipts at month-end." That landed. That is exactly the thing. I don't chase receipts, I chase invoices, but I knew what they meant. The sub-line about invoices scattered across "email threads, Slack, and notebooks" is accurate enough that I kept reading.

Then I hit the three stat callouts: "live result of overdue invoices recovered within 14 days" and "average recovered per business per month" and "average setup time from signup to first reminder sent." Every single one is missing the number. There are three empty claims presented in the visual language of proof. That stopped me cold.

## Where I paused

"Clients respond because it does not feel automated -- even though it is." I actually re-read that twice. It is the most honest line on the page. Most tools in this space would just say "natural-sounding reminders" and move on. Whoever wrote this knows the tension. That made me think there is a real person behind this who has actually sent these emails and watched what happened.

## What I distrusted

The page eventually reveals what this actually is: a studio selling a $5 dossier and a $99 build kit for an idea that does not exist yet as a live product. The whole first half reads like I am about to sign up for a SaaS. The second half tells me "probability of meaningful success around 13%, by Fermi heuristics" and offers to sell me the code starter. Those are two completely different products for two completely different people. The page never decides which one I am.

The "Who this is NOT for" section lists "pure consumer apps" and "hardware-first products." That is not meaningful qualification. That is padding. It tells me nothing about whether a 6-person agency in Denver with FreshBooks and a 40-client roster is actually in scope.

Also: no screenshots. No demo. There is a "Watch the 30-second explainer" link but the product does not appear to be live, so I don't know what I would be watching.

## What would convince me

One real number in one of those three stat slots. Not "average recovered per business per month" with no value. If the answer is $4,200 or $1,100 or "we don't have live data yet," I would respect any of those more than a blank field dressed up as a metric.

And clarity on what I am actually buying. If this is a live AR tool I can connect to FreshBooks today, show me that. If this is a build kit I can license and launch myself, say that first. The page conflates both and I burned two minutes figuring out what the product actually is.

A single testimonial from a freelancer with a dollar amount and a time frame. Not a headshot carousel, not a logo wall. One sentence from one person. "I collected $3,800 in 11 days that had been sitting at 60-plus days" would close me faster than any feature list.

## What I'd ask in an email reply

1. Is this a live product I can use today, or am I buying the idea and someone builds it later? I genuinely could not tell from the page.
2. Does it integrate with FreshBooks, or do I have to migrate invoices somewhere else first?
3. The "dispute resolution flow" section mentions it "routes the conversation to a structured resolution flow." What does that actually look like on the client side? Does the client get a form, a phone number, a Calendly link?

## Verdict: on-the-fence

The problem is real and the writing is better than most. But I don't know if I can buy this today, and the missing stat numbers felt like a choice, not an oversight, which makes me uneasy about what the real numbers are.
