# Derek Cassidy, Online Performance Coach — read of Stride (coach-ai.com), May 6 2026

> 8 years coaching, 4 of them fully online, currently running 23 clients solo out of a converted garage gym in Boise. My kid just turned 5.

## How I got here

I had a no-show last Tuesday. Charged the cancellation fee, then spent 20 minutes trying to figure out where I'd logged the client's payment history because it was split between Venmo and a Google Sheet tab I renamed at some point. Lost the fee in the friction. Googled "scheduling CRM for online coaches" and this was the third result after Trainerize and a YouTube ad. Clicked it.

## What I clicked first

The hero subhead: "Stop Managing. Start Coaching." I've seen that kind of line 40 times. What made me scroll was the number below it: "3.2 hrs saved per client each month." That's specific enough to be interesting or specific enough to be made up. I wanted to find out which.

## Where I paused

The retention alerts section. "When a client shows early churn signals, you receive an alert with a suggested action to re-engage before it becomes a cancellation." I stopped here for a while. I have genuinely lost clients without seeing it coming. One guy just stopped replying to check-ins and was gone by week 5. If that feature actually works the way they're describing it, it's the one thing on this page that's solving a problem I haven't solved myself with a spreadsheet.

## What I distrusted

Three things, in order of annoyance.

First: "3.2 hrs saved per client each month." With my current roster that would be 73 hours a month. That is not a real number. I spend maybe 3-4 hours a week on admin, total. Where does that figure come from and who measured it?

Second: "94% Client Retention Rate." Whose? The coaches who use Stride? Their clients? Over what time window? This is the kind of stat that sounds like a testimonial but is formatted like a data point. There's no source linked anywhere near it.

Third: the product is called Stride throughout the whole page, but the support email at the bottom of the FAQ is "support@coachai.com." That's a small thing but it felt like I was reading a white-label product and someone forgot to scrub the original brand. It made me google "coachai.com" in a second tab.

Also, every testimonial has a first name and a last initial. Jenna R. Marcus L. Priya D. Fine, but the quotes are unusually clean. "I tell them I just got smarter software and a lot more organized" reads like someone edited a real quote into a marketing quote and left a seam showing.

## What would convince me

One specific case study with a real full name, a before/after admin time log, and a screenshot of what the retention alert actually looks like in the dashboard. Not a testimonial quote -- a screen recording of a coach going through a morning review. Show me the 5-minute dashboard thing they keep promising.

On the retention alerts specifically: I want to know what signals it's actually watching. "Session frequency, check-in response rates, progress entry gaps, and payment delays" is listed but that's just a feature list. Does it trigger after two missed check-ins? Three? Can I set the threshold? Is this a rules engine or is there actually a model running on my client data?

## What I'd ask in an email reply

1. The 3.2 hours saved per client per month -- can you show me how that was calculated? What kind of coach, how many clients, which tasks were measured?

2. When the AI sends automated check-in messages, does the client see it as coming from me? And can I read every message before it goes out, or is it already sent by the time I see it?

3. The client app -- I have a few clients who are in their 50s and already frustrated that I moved them from texting to an email thread. What's the actual adoption rate for the app among new clients, and what happens if they won't download it?

## Verdict: on-the-fence

The problem framing is accurate, the pricing is reasonable, and the retention alert feature is the first thing I've read in a while that addresses a gap I actually have. But the inflated stats and the Stride/coachai brand confusion make me want to verify that this is a real company before I put 23 client profiles into it.
