# Dana Kretchmer, Director of Sustainability & Compliance at Fortline Industries — read of carbon-tracker-ai, May 8, 2026

> 9 years in ESG and environmental compliance, currently managing carbon reporting for a 1,400-person contract manufacturer in Ohio. My kid is 7 and obsessed with dinosaurs, which is darkly funny given what I do for a living.

## How I got here

I was searching Google for "Scope 3 supplier data collection tools" after spending three days trying to get emissions data out of two of our tier-1 vendors using nothing but a shared Google Sheet and diplomatic patience. A sponsored result for carbon tracking software came up. I don't remember if this was the first or second link I clicked. I have six tabs open right now and my coffee is cold.

## What I clicked first

The hero line "Track Every Gram. Match Every Regulation." landed okay. It's direct. Then I saw a section labeled "Try it Live result Before With Carbon Tracker AI" and I genuinely cannot tell what that sentence is trying to say. Is there a live demo? A before/after comparison? The text reads like something got dropped during a CMS migration. That's a first impression.

## Where I paused

The supply chain section: "Link to suppliers. Collect their emissions data." I stopped there because that is the hardest part of this whole problem and those seven words are doing a lot of heavy lifting. HOW do you collect it? Do suppliers log into a portal? Do you send them a survey? Do they need their own account? Does this require supplier IT involvement? I've seen three tools promise this exact thing in the last two years. One emailed suppliers a PDF. I'm not kidding.

## What I distrusted

"Read your operational data automatically. No manual spreadsheets." What does automatic mean here? Does it connect to our ERP? Which ones? We run SAP. Does it pull from utility bills, fuel logs, fleet telematics? "Automatically" is a word people use when they don't want to explain their integration layer. I also noticed this is "Built by Wishdeal Studio" which appears to be a web/product studio, not a sustainability-native software company. That's not disqualifying, but it makes me wonder if anyone on this team has actually filed a CDP disclosure or dealt with a GHG Protocol auditor.

Also: no pricing. Not even a range. Not even "starts at." That's either intentional (enterprise sales process) or the product isn't real enough yet to have pricing. Both are fine, but I'm noting it.

## What would convince me

A 90-second screen recording of someone actually importing operational data from a real source (not a CSV upload, a real integration) and getting a Scope 2 number out the other end. That's it. That one thing would do more than this entire page. Alternatively: name one company using this for SEC climate disclosure prep. Not a logo wall with Fortune 500 names that "use sustainability software." A named company, a named use case, and what regulation they were targeting.

## What I'd ask in an email reply

1. What data sources does "automatic" mean specifically? Do you have a native SAP or Oracle ERP connector, or is this CSV/API import?
2. How does supplier data collection actually work on the supplier's end? Do they need an account? Is there a bulk invite flow?
3. The page mentions SEC, EU, and state disclosure standards. Which EU framework specifically? CSRD? SFDR? Those are very different problems.

## Verdict: on-the-fence

The page describes the right problems. It doesn't describe any solutions in enough detail to know if the product actually solves them. I'm not dismissing it, but I'd want answers to those three questions before I'd get on a call.
